Elderly man victim of assault; attack suspected to be racially motivated.

“AN elderly man was the victim of a racially aggravated assault by youngsters in Kidderminster.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident, in Stourbridge Road on Friday and particularly want to trace two people who spoke to the 90-year-old man after the assault.

He had been walking along Stourbridge Road towards the mosque on Radford Avenue and as he came level with the Eurasia takeaway a youngster started throwing stones and shouting at him.

The pensioner does not speak any English so did not understand what was being said.

He then walked past the youth who threw a stick at him which struck him across the face. The youngster then ran off towards the flats on the Grasmere estate.

The elderly victim suffered a small cut to his left eyebrow which was treated at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The young male is white, thought to be between 14 and 15 years old and has dark hair.

PC Rebecca Jansen said: “Following the assault the man was spoken to by two passers-by but unfortunately he couldn’t understand what they said and they walked away.

“It is thought they may have been witnesses to the incident and we would urge them to call us as soon as possible as they may have information which could help us with our inquiries.”
