What is Stop Hate UK?
Stop Hate UK is a unique charity, raising awareness of all types of
hate crime and supporting the individuals and communities that are
affected by it. We are based in Leeds and work with members of the
local community there, and we also support people anywhere in the UK
who experience hate crime through our 24-hour helpline, the Stop Hate
Line.
What does Stop Hate UK do?
Stop Hate UK works to raise awareness of hate crime, and demonstrate that it is illegal and unacceptable.
We work to improve the quality of life for individuals and families
whose health and welfare has been damaged by hate crime. We also work
to reduce the negative impact which hate crimes have on the entire
community in which it occurs.
Our services include:
-
emotional and practical support for adults and young people who have experienced hate crime
-
work with communities in Leeds that are affected by hate crime
-
training about equality, diversity and hate crime awareness for adults and young people
-
a
24-hour helpline offering immediate support for victims of hate crime,
and providing a method of reporting alternative to the Police (thereby
fulfilling Recommendation 16 of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry). This is
available to people anywhere in the UK.
-
coordination of the Hate Incident Reporting Centres in Leeds
-
production of information about hate crime and how to report it in a range of accessible formats and 16 community languages
Who does Stop Hate UK work with?
Anyone can be affected by hate crime, and so our clients include people
from across society. They are of a range of ethnicities, ages, genders,
faiths and sexual orientations, and include people with and without
impairments.
We have a partnership approach to our work, and enjoy good working
relationships with Local Authorities across West Yorkshire and in Hull.
We work closely with the Police, CPS, and a number of voluntary sector
organizations.
