Language-Free Hate Crime Information launched in Northumbria

Northumbria Police have launched a package of short videos and posters which are entirely language-free.  The information is aimed at migrant communities and groups for whom English is not a first language. They focus on eight key areas – anti-social behaviour, knife crime, hate crime, suspicious behaviour leading onto more series crime such as terrorism, violent crime, internet safety, alcohol leading to vulnerability and driving in the UK.

Victory in campaign against disability hate crime as Ofcom rules against Big Brother and their use of the “r-word”

Ofcom has upheld complaints about Vinnie Jones and Davina McCall using the word ‘retard’ in a Big Brother programme. This is a great result for the campaign against disability hate crime. Read more

This outcome came thanks to campaigning from Respond, Mencap, People First and Nicola Clark.

77 people arrested in London Hate Crime Raids

Police raids were carried out on tuesday morning in London and 77 arrests were made as a part of a crackdown on violence and harrassment against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people.

Want to know more about the issues affecting trans people?

Shine @ Galop is a new project exploring trans people’s experiences of discrimination and hate crime. The aims of the project are to increase safety or perceptions of safety amongst trans people, lobby for policy change, develop training resources on trans issues and improve Galop’s services for trans clients. Australia holds summit to tackle cyber-racism

IDAHO – International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

The International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia (IDAHO) is designed to raise awareness of the impact of prejudice and discrimination on the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people throughout the world and also on the lives of their families, friends and colleagues. To mark this event, the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health and Sheffield City Council are arranging a ONE-MINUTE ‘NOISE’ on Monday the 17th May to speak out loudly and clearly that homophobia and transphobia are simply not acceptable.
